Located at the northern end of the Coronado peninsula, this military golf course is sited on the coastal sand dunes between the Pacific Ocean and San Diego Bay. The 18 Hole Championship Course resulted in a unique "Ocean Scotch Links" golf course constructed over an existing land fill, and incorporating in its design the preservation and protection of the sensitive habitat of the local Sand Owl, an endangered species.
Our design involvement on the Air Station’s golf facilities extends from 1953 to present. In 1980, the new 18-hole championship golf course was designed. In 2000, a new storage lake and more efficient pumping system was added, to coincide with additional irrigation upgrades. In 2007, a major realignment and remodel was designed for the golf course. The redesign addressed safety issues, playability, circulation, maintenance and Golf Course rating. Six new holes were designed, and a new signature hole was created for hole 14, a 525 par 5, overlooking the Ocean.
